and identify key genre conventions (complete for homework - Monday 19th June):
Ø What do we expect in terms of themes, narrative, imagery /
colours, characters, technical codes (camerawork, sound, editing , mise en
scene)? Try to refer to iconography
Ø You must also discuss the audience’s expectations / appeal of
films that follow those generic codes and conventions (try to use the audience
theories we have already looked at i.e. uses and gratifications)
Ø Try to apply any other theories you can i.e. male gaze,
intertextuality, stereotypes / countertypes etc
Ø Do you think the film is trying to subvert / challenge any genre
conventions?
